National Health Insurance
Insurance and Pension Division 89-2135
Everyone living in Japan must apply for public health insurance (those who will be in Japan for only short periods are excluded). People except those who are enrolled in any other health insurance plan, their dependents or welfare recipient apply for National Health Insurance. When you move into Toyokawa, leave social insurance or give birth, etc, report to us within 14 days of the change. If the procedure is delayed, the insurance does not cover you during the period but you are not exempted from paying the premium. That is calculated retroactively for a maximum of two years. After applying, a health insurance card will be issued. When you see a doctor show your insurance card and the medical expense will be within 30% of total cost. When the insured give birth, die or pay medical expense more than the limit, they may receive benefits. NHI premiums are calculated according to the number of family members insured, income tax or asset tax. The insured pay the premium in eight installments per year. The head of the household is under obligation to pay the insurance premiums. Payment details are sent to the head of the household. If you join your companyfs health insurance or move to another city, you must report the change to us.
